Obituary For Mr. Thomas Ferrial Chambers

Thomas Ferrial Chambers, affectionately known as “Butch”, departed this life on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at home with family and Liberty Hospice Chaplain by his side. He was born in Washington, D.C. on September 1, 1940 to Jewel Scott Chambers (deceased) and Archie Chambers (deceased).

He married Rosia Mae Watson on December 25, 1957 and to this union three children were born: Tony Reno, James Orin, and Angela Jeanette.

Thomas gave his life to Christ at an early age and joined Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church where he was a faithful member until his health declined. He visited the sick at home, hospitals and nursing homes. This gave him great joy. He loved people and always had a joke or something to make you smile. He was known for passing out flyers about Christ leading to folk coming to Christ. He would always invite folk to church.

Early in life, Thomas/Butch worked as a milk deliverer for Sealtest as a teenager. Various other employment i.e., Ballet Hosiery Mill, Wansona Manufacturing, Bowman’s Restaurant, Kenville, and Duff Norton. His last job was at Southern Correctional Institution in Troy, N.C. where he worked for 21½ years, then retired. He was nicknamed “Eagle Eyes” there because he could really spot problems with the inmates. We were told that he could really run that Central Control Station like no other. He enjoyed Deep Sea fishing and playing pool. He was called “8BALL.”

Thomas/Butch was preceded in death by his six siblings: Carolyn Harden, Violet Clautterbuck, Edward Chambers, Glen Chambers, Kenneth Chambers and Barbara Buchanon.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 65 years, Rosia Mae Chambers; two sons, Tony Chambers (Marie) of Chesterfield, SC and James Chambers (Juanita) of Kathleen, GA and a daughter, Angela Jeanette of the home; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Robin Ingram of Wadesboro, NC; four sisters-in-law, Juanita Chambers of Wadesboro, NC, Mary McLean (Howard) of Wadesboro, NC, Shirley Ingram (Jimmy) of High Point, NC and Juretha Colson of Wadesboro, NC; two brothers-in-law, William Watson (Olive) of Lilesville, NC and James Thomas Watson (Celeste) of New York. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Services to Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mr. Chambers will be on Sunday, May 28, 2023, 1:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina.

Interment will be at Westview Memorial Park, Highway 74-West, Wadesboro, North Carolina.

The Chambers Family will greet family and friends on Sunday, May 28, 2023 from 12:30-1:00pm at Smith's Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Thomas always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say every time he saw me and my family, I will always remember him cooking on the grill in his back yard and telling stories of his life.
