Obituary For MRS. LILLIE E. HOUGH SMITH

Mrs. Lillie Elizabeth Smith affectionately known as “Lib” was born to John and Cassie Ingram Hough on July 16, 1940 in Lilesville, NC.

“After 84 years in this journey, my Lord and Savior called my name and I gained my winds on June 18, 2025. Even though my transition happened suddenly, family and friends, remember me in your hearts and find comfort in the love we shared. While I wished to stay, my Heavenly Father extended an offer, I could not refuse: a complete transformation (no more pain), a release from the daily burdens and cares that weighed me down, and a place of rest, filled with joy and gladness. I accepted the offer! I leave you my legacy and love. I charge all of you to love in words, actions and in deeds. Please rejoice in knowing I am at peace, surrounded by love and light. Hallelujah! I am free. Thank God for His grace and mercy.”

She was an active and devoted member of Pleasant Hill AME Zion Church, Wadesboro, NC until her health failed.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Walter Frank Smith in July 1966 and to this union 4 children were born: Jasper Smith of the home who preceded her in death, John (Michele) Smith of Peachland, NC, Lillie D. Smith (Eddie) of Wadesboro, NC and Lemanuel Smith (Debbie) of the home. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Cassie Hough, her granddaughter, Nadia Smith; her grandson, Brian Smith; brothers, Rafael and John Richard Hough and sister, Mary Hough.

She is also survived by one granddaughter, Shuntel Smith of Wadesboro, NC; one great granddaughter, Naziah Grace, two brothers-in-law, Clifton and Glen Smith of Wadesboro, NC; a special sister-in-law, Laney Hough of Wadesboro, NC and sisters-in-law, Lillye Horne of Wadesboro, NC and Brenda Williams of Greensboro, NC; Emeline Northcutt who she considered as her 2nd daughter; a special niece, Rosa Gatewood, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Lillie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, riding with her niece every Tuesday, enjoying food at her niece’s restaurant, but most of all she was the life of the party doing the “Stanky Leg.” She has several friends, Sue, Hubert, Eloise, Thelma, Charlie Mae, and Joe.

The Homegoing Services will be on Saturday, June 21, 2025, 1:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will be in the family plot of the Piney Grove Holiness Church Cemetery.

The family will greet family and friends on Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 12:30-1:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel and at all other times at the family residence.

Send flowers to the service of MRS. LILLIE E. HOUGH SMITH
