Obituary For Samuel Mingo, Jr.

Mr. Samuel “Sam” Mingo, Jr. 81, departed this life on December 31, 2021. He was the son of the late Samuel Mingo, Sr. and Estelle Tate Mingo. Sam was born on December 4, 1940, in Kershaw County.

Sam was a 1959 graduate of Hillside High School. He was very athletic in school and engaged in many sports. He was awarded a scholarship to play football at Benedict College in Columbia, SC.

Sam along with three close friends and associates created Allstar Utility, a very successful construction company, in 1984. Allstar worked on major projects such as the Redskin Stadium, DC Convention Center, and the Baltimore Ravens Stadium.

Sam was a dedicated member of Southern Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of the trustee board. Sam was also a Mason.

Left to cherish his memories are his children Larry Duncan of Heath Springs, SC, Rick Mingo (Rhonda) of Buffalo, NY, Daryle Mingo of Buffalo, NY, Reginald Watts (Erica) of Lancaster, SC, Mesharon Moore (Peter) of Brandywine, MD, Sherilyn Mingo Nettles (David, Sr.) of Buffalo, NY, Samuel Mingo III of Buffalo, NY, Adrian Harris of Oxon Hill, MD, Karen Mingo of Waldorf, MD, Juwain Latese Mingo of Odenton, MD, Ronald Truesdale, who Sam mentored and guided as a son of Lancaster, SC; four brothers, Winthrop Mingo of Washington, DC, Willie R. Mingo and Rev. George Mingo (Patricia) of Heath Springs, SC and Henry Mingo (Linda) of Buffalo, NY; one sister, Mable Ferrell (Willie) of Bridgeport, CT; one uncle, Olden Tate (Catherine) of Lancaster, SC; daughter - in -law, Daphne Watts of Columbia, SC and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Sam was preceded in death by three children Wanda Mingo, Rev. Maurice Watts, and Tameka Gaither: four sisters and one brother, Laseen Fisher, Adlean Tubbs, Minola Hall, Hattie Barnes, and James T. Mingo.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m., Sunday, January 16, 2022, at the Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Association (FEW) Center, 3045 John G. Richards Road, Camden, SC 29020. Burial will be in the Cedar Rock Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Funeral Service will be conducted by Reverend Jerusha Gaither and Reverend George Mingo.

Viewing will be 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Stewart Funeral Home.
