Obituary For Elder Matthew "Bobby" Brooks
Matthew Bob Brooks, affectionately known as Bobby was born on November 23, 1954 in Silver Creek, NY to the late Bernard Brooks and Altamese Brooks. He was the youngest of three boys. Early in life the family moved to Fort Pierce, FL. He graduated from Fort Pierce Central High School with the class of 1972. Bobby went on to Indian River Community College and completed his AS Degree. From there his career chartered paths as a welder and mounting plates working for Piper Aircraft and Northrop Grumman. Bobby commanded a special skill with animals and landscaping. He trained and bred animals for 30 years and was often seen in his yard manicuring and nurturing over 20 fruit trees surrounded by exotic birds. Gifted with musical insight, his favorite pastime was playing the bass guitar, bongos, and congas.
His heart was captured by his only daughter, Nikki Brooks. He affectionately called her “Baby Cake.” Their smiles are identical and could light up a room. In 1986 he married Agnes Benjamin of Fort Pierce and they walked together for 35 years in agreement. With this union, he gained a bonus son, Tracy Latimer. He loved his time with Tracy “keeping it real!” After giving his life to Christ he joined Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Roszon Lawrence. Following the call and will of God, he became a licensed minister. Later he joined Greater Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Elder S.P. Kilpatrick. In 1988 he became the Senior Pastor of Saint John Primitive Baptist Church in Mims, FL and was welcomed with open arms. God used him to serve 34 years at SJPBC.
On November 9, 2022, our heavenly Father called him home. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents: Bernard and Altamese; brother: Leonard R. Clark; grandparents: Leon and Amanda Clark.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife: Agnes Benjamin-Brooks; daughter: Nikki Brooks of Atlanta, GA; bonus son: Tracy Latimer of Fairburn, GA; eight grandchildren: Jacarri Hunt, Darnell Latimer, Marcus Latimer, Ashlie Latimer, Sade` Latimer, Jamel Graham, Dylan Latimer, Sincere Latimer; brother: Donald Brooks (Sherill) of Orange Park, FL; sisters-in-law: Jacqueline Green (Johnny) of Fort Pierce, FL, Gwendolyn Benjamin-Barr (Howard) of Deerfield Beach, FL, Vivian Martin (Ricky) of Columbus, Ohio, Linda Fay Benjamin of Fort Pierce, FL; special niece: Sharlene Brooks of Orange Park, FL; special nephew: Benjamin Brooks of Germany; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and the family of SJPBC.
Public visitation for Elder Matthew Brooks will take place on Friday, November 18, 2022 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral services will convene on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Greater Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 11:00am. Burial will immediately follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
Although many venues have opened and the restrictions of COVID-19 have been relaxed, we at Stone Brothers Funeral Homes are still enforcing the guidelines set forth by the CDC and FDOH to protect our families and our staff. We ask that you respect this, as it could very well save your life. We also ask that you acknowledge and execute the 6 feet social distancing guidelines as well.
