Maggie Lee Denmark Grier was born December 25, 1930 in Monticello, Florida to James L. Denmark and Henrietta Speed Denmark. She was the seventh of fourteen siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Henrietta Denmark; daughter Carolyn Wright-Hills and siblings John Hightower, Aaron, Cornell and James Denmark, Emma Morris, Julia Randolph Boston, Clara Kleckley, Bernice McDonald, Corine Newsome, Juanita Gainous and Theda Black; and grandchildren Bryant Wright and Jonica Hills.
She spent her early years in Monticello and later moved to Ft. Pierce where she attended St. Lucie County Schools. Years later, Maggie met and married J.B. Wright in 1949. Out of this union there were seven children, three girls and four boys. Maggie worked as a housekeeper to support her family. Eventually, her passion for children led her to become a foster parent. During her labor of love as a foster parent, she cared for over three hundred children in a span of twenty years. Many of her foster children continued to visit and call her as they reached adulthood. While she was a foster parent, she fulfilled her dream of getting her high school diploma at the age of 72.
Maggie was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years. While a member, she served in many positions. She was the Mother of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church and shared her loved for Jesus to all she met. At the age of twelve, her dad told her, “Get to know the Lord for yourself”. While a young girl, she had the opportunity to let her dad know that she “got religion”. Since that day, Maggie has been praising God. In her spare time, Maggie kept busy with many hobbies. She loved working with her hands while doing activities like sewing and yard work. Her latest sewing project was making masks for others during the pandemic. She never missed the opportunity to shop at Goodwill, also fondly called “Burdines”. She was a giving person. Whenever there was a need, she was willing and contributed any way she could. Maggie loved to bake sweet potato pies for others. If you ever ate one, you were sure to come back for another. Her love for family contributed to her attending every family reunion.

I'm really saddened by the passing of this beautiful, sweet woman! Ms. Maggie was a extraordinary seamstress that my mother could always rely on whenever she needed her. She always greeted me with a smile and good conversation. I admired her youthful spirit and beautiful mane of her own long hair! The Barron Family will truly miss her!

Dear family, our families have been connected for at least five decades; when we all lived in "The Projects". We lived less than 100 yards from each other. I'm still in wonder about how quickly the years seem to pass.
I really started to develop a deeper adult relationship with Ms. Maggie after moving back to St. Lucie County about seven years ago. I would visit her periodically and we would talk for hours about current events, family, her favorite television programs, relationships, etc. Because of these conversations, I learned so much about Ms. Maggie that was impressive.
I'm thankful that I expressed to her my pride for her strength and courage to pursue and obtain her high school diploma!! Especially because this decision came later in her life. I could continue with many more memories but I'll end this message with Ms. Maggie was truly an amazing person and will be deeply missed!
So, Bett, Sharon, Tim, Sonny, Norman and Johnnie B, it is my prayer that your grief will be short and your loving memories endless!! May God's Word bring you comfort. Much love to you, DJ O'Neal Ferguson

Maggie and I would talk often on the phone. We started to write each other since no one goes that anymore. I will really miss her and our talks. Mary Render
To the family of the Late Mother Maggie Grier, my deepest heart sympathy goes out to the family. For Mother Grier was #1 in my eyes for she would always tease me about my size but I would tell her that I eat, but nevertheless, I will truly missed her. For she was a diligently worker in the church and around the community. But most of all I can always called on her if I needed some altering on a new outfit that I bought and she would say "come over skinny minnie". Mother Grier I would always loved you and missed you; but God wanted you in his garden and that place needed to be filled and you was that flower. To the family look unto the hill for strength from God for he will lead and guide you through these perils times. Stay strong and remember the good times that you had with your mother, sister, and grand mother for she was the sweetest person on this planet and will be truly missed amongst us.
