Mattie Johnson Brown was born May 10, 1921 in Edison, Georgia to the late Johnnie and Tenner Johnson. The family moved to Fort Pierce in 1930.
Mattie matriculated at Lincoln Park Academy and was a member of the graduating class of 1945. While a student at Lincoln Park Academy she was a member of the Victorette Club, the girls’ basketball team and she authored the senior class poem.
Mattie met the love of her life while a student at Lincoln Park Academy. She married her high school sweetheart, Eugene McKinley Brown, on December 4, 1946. To this union two beautiful daughters were born.
Mattie was an excellent seamstress. She was employed by Paramount Cleaners as manager and seamstress. She was also a seamstress at Jimmy’s Discount Cleaners and JC Penney.
She served her community as an active member of the Fort Pierce Federated Women’s Club.
Mattie’s trust was in Jesus Christ. She worshiped at St. Paul AME Church where she was a dedicated and faithful member. She served on the Trustee Board and was a member of The Prayer Warriors ministry.
On November 3, 2018 Mattie Johnson Brown was called from this earthly labor to eternal rest. The battle fought, the victory won.
Left to cherish her memories are daughters Janice M. Brown, Bettina Brown-Jones (Michael), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
Mattie was predeceased by her parents Johnnie Johnson and Tenner Thompson Johnson; Husband, Eugene McKinley Brown; Siblings, Eunice Johnson, Dorothy Ealey, Louvonyer Young, Emma Lundy, Troy Johnson, Ralph Johnson, John Henry Johnson, and Beauregard Johnson.
Visitation for Mrs. Brown will take place on Friday, November 9, 2018 between the hours of 3pm-7pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Home. A funeral service will convene on Saturday, November 10, 2018 beginning at 11:00am at Saint Paul A.M.E. Church in Fort Pierce, FL. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
Flowers are delivered by the preferred local florist of Stone Bros. Funeral Home and Chapel.
