Odessa Cox, 67, of Phenix City, AL passed on Friday, August 8, 2025 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. EST, Friday, August 15, 2025 at St. Luke AME Church, 2388 CR 106, Midway, AL with Rev. Cynthia Johnson, Pastor, officiating. Burial to follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. A public visitation will not occur.
Ms. Odessa Cox was born on April 8, 1958, at John A. Andrew Hospital in Tuskegee, Alabama, to the late Carlton and Ida Mae Cox.
Odessa was a proud 1976 graduate of Bullock County High School. Soon after, she began her honorable service to her country in the United States Army, where she dedicated numerous years as an Administrative Specialist and Recruiter. Throughout her military career, Ms. Cox displayed unwavering commitment, professionalism, and a spirit of service that inspired those around her.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents and her beloved son,Larry. Ms. Cox will be remembered for her strength, determination,and compassionate heart. She leaves behind cherished memories for family and friends who will forever honor her legacy of dedication,resilience, and love. Her life was a testament to service - both to her nation and to those she cared for most.
She leaves to cherish her memories with her six sisters, Annie Will Turpin of Hurtsboro, AL, Mildred Lee Brown of Phenix City, AL, Annie Ruth Reeves, Phenix City, AL, Yvonne Cox, Midway, AL,Irene (Charles) Penn of Union Springs, AL, Eunice (Danny) Ricks of Phenix City, AL; one brother, O. C. Cox, Hartford, CT, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, very special friends and caregivers.

My sincerest condolences and prayers to the entire family during this sad and difficult time. Dessa was a dear, beloved classmate, veteran and most of all a beloved friend. We were part of the class of '76 and stayed in touch until her passing. Words fall short of expressing my condolences but know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this challenging time. We remember the incredible life that she lived, lives she touch in so many ways and the wonderful memories we have of her that will forever live on in our hearts and memories. Rest In Peace my dear friend--you will be missed.

To the family and friends of Odessa l write this with a heavy heart lt was hard to hear that My Dessa,Dessa,Dessa is no longer here when l just talk to her maybe a little over a week before her departure. Know that she was a praying woman a loving woman and a caring woman there was never a time that we got off the phone with out telling each other that we love each other. I am going to truly miss calling and saying hello my Dessa,Dessa,Dessa. We was friends from 10th grade and always stayed in touch. So I say Continue to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding but all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path and to look to hills from which comes your help for your help comes from the Lord. You were one of the best youth director St. Luke has ever seen. You took time with our children and allow them to choose their usher and choir uniforms. You took all of those kids with you too but them and you live to tell the story. I love you for that you took time with or children teaching them things they need to know. I always missed you from doing so. Until we meet agreeable farewell

My heart is deeply broken as I say goodbye to my beloved Auntie Dessa, a woman who was like a mother to me. You loved me as your own and cared deeply for me and my children. I thank God for the blessing of your life and the countless ways you showed me what unconditional love looks like. Though I will miss you more than words can say, I take comfort in knowing you are now at peace in the arms of the Lord, where there is no pain or sorrow, only joy everlasting.
