Patsy Dumas, 60, passed Thursday, January 11, 2024 in Phenix City, AL.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. EST, Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor James Gant, officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. EST on Friday, January 19, 2024.
Patsy (Harris) Dumas was born April 23, 1963 in Hamilton, Ohio to Neal and Hattie Harris. She transitioned on January 11, 2024. She was preceded in death by her father, Neal W. Harris Jr., grandmother, Sillie Kate (Mama Kate) Hardimon and nephew, Marvin (Ty) Harris.
She accepted Christ at a very early age and continued her best to live by his word. She was an active member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, GA. Patsy graduated from Hamilton High School (Hamilton, Ohio) in 1981. In the early 2000s, she made the decision to enroll back in college, obtaining an Associate’s Degree from Chattahoochee Valley Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree from Troy University majoring in Criminal Justice.
Her main love was always education. Patsy taught at numerous schools in Alabama, Georgia and Ohio for over 30 years. Most recently, she was a teacher at Georgetown Elementary in Columbus, GA. Her son Tyler, will say “my mom treated kids as her own. It didn’t matter if they were family, friends, or students. It didn’t matter: background, ethnicity, age, good, bad, genius or needed help. She just loved kids.” Patsy also spent time at the Aaron Cohn Youth Detention Center, Columbus Civic Center and Kid’s Learning Center.
She is survived by her only child and son Tyler Senior; mother, Hattie Harris; aunt, Mary L. Moore; brothers, Edgar Crimes, Neal Harris, Jr., and Dale Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who she communicated with multiple times a week.
