MALIK SHAVARR WILLIAMS was born on September 30, 1996, to Bobby Lee and Michelle Rose (Coley) Williams. He was a beautiful big baby with a head full of hair and the biggest cheeks.
Malik loved football and basketball. He played Pop Warner football in middle school, where he was a member of the state champion Cary Chargers that participated in nationals in Orlando, Florida. He played AAU basketball in middle and high school. He was also a member of the 2014 4A Boys State Champion Basketball team. He had a smooth 3-point shot. We called him our million-dollar baby because of all the sports injuries, surgeries, and rehab.
He graduated from Apex High School in 2014 and received a BS degree in Information Technology from East Carolina University in 2020. One of his proudest accomplishments was working in IT with NASA in Huntsville, Alabama. As his family grew, he felt he needed to move them closer back home. He secured a position as a Cyber Security Engineer with Krispy Creme Corporation in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He was a loving son, brother, companion, and father. He loved his family deeply. Family meant everything to him, especially his relationship with his Papa. His children were his entire world. Making time and protecting them was always a priority. He enjoyed watching shows with them, playing with them, taking them to the park and on walks.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Doris Coley, and paternal grandparents, Willie and Mary Williams. Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother, Jalen Jamaal Williams (Huntersville, North Carolina); beloved companion, Laurie Turbeville (Charlotte, North Carolina); children, Alaiyah Ulani Williams, Nova Chanel Williams, Kalia Rose Williams, Rowan Carter Williams, and Preston Gray Williams; maternal grandfather, Charles A. Coley, Sr., of Goldsboro, North Carolina; maternal aunts, Maxine (Michael) Richardson of Princeton, North Carolina and Cynthia (Thomas) Lockley of Ashburn, Virginia; maternal uncle, Kenneth Coley of Goldsboro, North Carolina; paternal uncles, Glenn Williams of Goldsboro, North Carolina, and Robert Earl Reid of Mt. Olive, North Carolina; paternal aunts, Emma Heath and Susie Hunter of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Viletta (Jonathan) Knight of Fairbanks, Arkansas, Patricia (Michael) Rogers of Randallstown, Maryland, Cindy Williams of LaGrange, North Carolina, and Phyllis Williams of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Jeanette Smith and Delores Price Stewart of Jersey City, New Jersey; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He had the opportunity to meet part of his birth family 2 weeks prior to his passing. He met Dolyski Lee (birth father), Marshe McMillan (birth mother), Stephanie Rowe (sister) and brothers Chris Lee, Chad Lee, Stephen McMillan and Dolyski Lee Jr (DJ).

Our very deepest condolences to Michelle, Bobby and Jalen for this overwhelming loss! After our transition to Apex at the beginning of 2013 we fell in love with each of the players, and parents experienced a unique sense as basketball family along the journey to the state championship, and during Jon's hospitalization we experienced the love of family so much needed with players like Malik visiting Jon. I pray that the same love of God envelope your hearts and that you be reminded of the love you shared with Malik, and the love of all those touched by his life that send their love to you now. May God Himself comfort you now and always. ~ The Jones Family; Kevin, Liz, Alex, Jon, KJ

Bobby Roxie and I are sorry for your loss. Not sure if I met your son before but if he has your personality than I am sure him and I would be in agreement with today's issues.
I worked with bobby at the VA and he loved his family it just hurts my heart to see him and his family deal with this. Praying for the Williams family.
This is very sad to hear. My family was around the Williams family when the kids were younger. Malik always had an easy way about him, always a generous smile and spirit, and Bobby and Michelle could not have been more graceful and sweet people. I hurt for you all. God bless.
Sending prayers of comfort and strength to Malik's family during this extremely difficult time. Malik and I often sat and ate lunch together at work, exchanging thoughts and stories about family and life. He was a dedicated member of two of our employee groups where peers were able to experience his gentle presence and appreciate his willingness to help. Anyone who got to know Malik will be deeply impacted by the tremendous void he will leave in our hearts. He and his brilliant smile will certainly be missed.
