Charles Richard Floyd, Sr. “Pops” was born on November 9, 1937, in Barnesville, Georgia, Lamar County. He was the oldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Julian C. Floyd. He had a younger brother, William Henry, who preceded him in death. He departed this life on Monday, July 15, 2024 at the Pruitt Health Care Facility in Forsyth, Georgia, after a short illness.
Charles was educated in the Barnesville public school district and then moved to Detroit, Michigan to start a new life. He married Shirley M. Griffin Floyd on June 9, 1962, and out of this union two sons were born, After a short stint working at A& P Supermarket as a butcher, he then worked for the City of Detroit where he retired after 27 years.
Charles loved photography and was an active member of the Shutterbug Camera Club for more than ten years. He was a prankster and loved joking around with his family. But his passion was tending to his garden. He could be seen by neighbors almost every day in his backyard making sure his vegetables were flourishing. He had no problem giving away free vegetables to family and friends when asked.
He leaves to cherish his found memory to his two sons, Charles “Rick” Floyd Jr., (Cynthia) and Sean Eric Floyd (Glynis); former wife, Shirley Mae Floyd; sister-in-law, Mrs. Edith Floyd; seven grandchildren and five great- grandchildren; his extended family, Reverend George (Lula) Sullivan, Mr. Michael Sullivan, Ms. Betty Sullivan, Keani Evans, Bria Hill, Landon Evans, Landyn Evans, Eria Turner and Michaela Walker, who affectionately knew him as “GG Pa”, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends, who will miss him.
