Mrs. Claudette Ivey Fagan, more affectionately known as “Lady C,” was born on June 26, 1943 in the community of Yatesville, Upson County, Georgia to the late Mr. Henry Ivey, Sr. and the late Mrs. Mary Lee Crafter Ivey. She was educated in the public school of Upson County and attended Drake High School.
On May 7, 1961, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Albert Fagan, Jr. To this union five children were born: Wilma, Daniel, Teresa, Angela and Alva. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a faithful member of the Salem Baptist Church for over 64 years. She joined at the age of 15. She was a member of the Deaconess Ministry, the Willing Workers Ministry, Culinary Ministry and any other place she was needed in the church.
To help support her family, she was employed by Dr. and Mrs. Frank (Carole) Gibson, Mr. and Mrs. Steve (Patsy) Perdue for over 32 years and also Dr. Thomas Kretzmer. During her employment, she gained five bonus children who loved her like a mother, Sherri, Cindy, Mike, Sharon and Jenny.
Her civic organizations included the member and treasurer of the Salem Volunteer Fire Department, former member of the Love Club, treasurer of the NAACP, Freedom Fund Chairperson for the NAACP, treasurer for Thomaston Upson County Concerned Citizen Coalition, treasurer for ISSUES, member of the Upson Historical Society, the first black member of the McIntosh Trail and served for over 22 years and a writer of community news for the Thomaston Times and The Upson Beacon News for over 35 years.
Claudette wa known for her kind heart, generous spirit and unwavering dedication to her family and friends. Words to describe her are many but listed are just a few: compassionate, beautiful, precious, affectionate, amazing, lovable, helpful and huggable. She would give you one of the best handshakes and hugs around. Claudette enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, sewing and baking.
Her homemade pies and cakes were a family favorite and will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of tasting them. She loved to attend the Board of Commissioners meeting and she loved going to the Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Mendy Ivey, Corene Henderson, Dorothy L. Ivey, and Sylvia A. Ivey; four brothers, Fred Ivey, Walter Ivey, Henry Ivey, Jr. and Ervin Ivey. On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the Lord called his servent home from a labor to reward.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Mr. Albert Fagan, Jr.; five children, Mrs. Wilma J. and Rev. Roosevelt Render of Moreland, GA, Rev. Daniel and Dr. Mary Ann Fagan of Hampton, GA, Mrs. Teresa A. and Mr. Gregory Blasingame of Robert, GA, Mrs. Angela F. and Rev. Maurice Raines of the Salem Community, Mr. Alva R. and Victoria Fagan of Lithia Springs, GA: 21 grandchildren 18 great- grandchildren also survive; one sister, Mrs. Bobbie L. Walker of the Logtown Community; two brothers, Mr. William Ivey of the Salem Community and Mr. Aubrey Ivey Sr. and Mrs. Mary W. Ivey of the Logtown Community; sisters and brother-in-law include Mrs. Betty R. Fagan of the Salem Community, Mrss. Willene and Eugene Heflin of Sharpsburg , GA, Mr. Oscar L. and Fenece Fagan of Ellenwood, GA; two special friends, Mrs. Jennie M. Colbert and Mother Dessie Perdue; a host of nieces and nephews and cousins and other relatives and friends.
