i love you... -your firstborn

Inderiah

I met Corey the day he entered my classroom. He was mild-mannered, polite, and well spoken. He stated he needed to better his life and change things. He impressed me from the get go. He worked very hard. In short order he was ready to test. He won free scholarships for each. The day before something from the past derailed him from going. I went to bat for him, but I was in the end unable to help him be able to do those tests. While he couldn't take the tests I made copies for the things he needed to keep fresh. I did this for 4-5 months. I had told him to come see me or call me when situation cleared. He came and I asked how soon can you test? Told him money not the object holding back. We scheduled it, he took it and passed the first time! I wasn't surprised! He had a quick mind, thought everything out, and expressed himself very well. We earned each other's mutual love and respect. He was one of those students through 30 yrs of teaching that stood out. I know he had been successful since getting his GED, was well and happy.

Several years ago I was in a bad wreck in Griffin. He had passed and saw it was me. He stopped his car and came to check on me. At first being shaken up by the wreck, I didn't recognize him without his dreadlocks. We hugged each other tightly and told all the great things going on in his life. I saw him as a great success. I had a proud "mama" moment.

I know he is a better place and that God had His reasons, but Cory touched me, as I had touched him. Selfishly, I wish we had had him much longer. I know he was happy and successful. That thought will always stick with me. He loved his children and his family greatly. He always loved to fish. I picture him in Heaven with the fishers of men, getting a great catch each day.

I was honored to speak of Corey today at his memorial. Thank you for letting me share. He was special and I have been so proud of him. I always will be.

Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
