Deacon Earlie B. King was born on April 8, 1935, in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia, to the late Mrs. Pearlie Mae Walker King and the late Mr. Ezekiel King. He was the ninth of ten children. He was educated in the public schools of Upson County. At an early age, he joined Fellowship Baptist Church. Earlie began his working career at Martha Mills as a forklift driver. On August 24, 1957, he married Mrs. Barbara Thornton. Together, they shared sixty-nine wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with six children. One son preceded him in death. Earlie was a loving husband, devoted father, hardworking provider, and wonderful role model for his children and grandchildren. Deacon King faithfully served at Fellowship Baptist Church for 76 years. During his time there, he sang in the Senior Choir and Male Choir, served as choir president, worked as a custodian, participated in the Van Ministry, and faithfully served in the Deacon Ministry, eventually becoming Chairman of the Deacon Ministry. In 2018, he joined Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Eddie J. Johnson, Sr. There, he continued his service as a member of the Deacon Ministry and was eventually named an Honorary Deacon. He was also the oldest male member of the church. Throughout his life, Deacon King remained faithful and dedicated in his service to the Lord. During his leisure time, Earlie enjoyed singing, attending church, and working around the church. He loved to cook, took great pride in caring for his yard, and treasured spending time with his family. He also enjoyed watching wrestling and was a lifelong fan of Atlanta Braves baseball. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David B. King; one grandson, Master Lewis J. King; five sisters, Elizabeth King, Fronnie Mae King Daniel, Hattie Toles Clark, Lucille Caldwell, and Cora Lee Campbell; and four brothers, Rev. Otis King, Sr., Samuel King, Edward King, and Eddie King. On Sunday, August 30, 2026, the Lord called Deacon King home from labor to reward. His life of faith, love, service, and devotion will be greatly remembered by his family, church family, and many friends. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Barbara King of Thomaston, GA; five children, Ms. Angela King, Mr. Michael O’Niel King, and Ms. Paula Carter, all of Thomaston, GA, Mr. Ronald L. King of Hiram, GA, and Mr. Reginald (Denise) King of Thomaston, GA; a granddaughter whom he raised as his own, Ms. Menecia (Anthony) Williams of Thomaston, GA; ten other grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Eloise Raines of College Park, GA, and Mrs. Bessie Funderburk of Thomaston, GA; a devoted nephew, Mr. Julius Cherry of Thomaston, GA; along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
