Obituary For Deacon Jimmie Lee Gray

Deacon Jimmie Lee Gray passed on Sunday, July 24, 2022. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. until 4:30 P.M. at Trice Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at New Calvary Missionary Baptist Church 1690 Melrose Drive S.W. Atlanta, GA. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Trice Funeral Home. Interment will follow on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at 2:30 P.M. at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Butler GA. Trice Funeral Home is in charge of all professional services. Please keep the Gray family in prayer Deacon Jimmie Lee Gray was born to the union of the late Mrs. Clyde Matthews Gray and the late Mr. Tallie Gray in Howard, Taylor County, Georgia on November 19, 1953. He received his early education in the public schools of Taylor County. His walk with Christ began at an early age at his beloved home church, the Antioch Baptist Church in Butler, GA. Jimmie studied faithfully and later received his GED. On May 30, 1973, he joined the United States Army, where he worked as a stock clerk and served for three years. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Marksman Badge. On June 10, 1976, he completed his tenure and received an honorable discharge. He was very proud of his accomplishments and service in the United States Army. After the service, Jimmie returned to Atlanta, GA, where he began to work as a Security Guard for Channel 11 television station. He always had high expectations for himself. He wrote scripts for plays and later earned his associate degree in computer science. Jimmie was a longtime and faithful member of the Emancipation Proclamation Committee of Upson County. He fought for change and fair treatment for all people. Deacon Jimmie Gray receive Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1988 and became a member of the Lamb of God Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA, pastored by Rev. L.G. Montford. In 1989, he moved his membership to The Christian Church of New Orleans, pastored by Pastor Timothy Williams, Jr., where he became a deacon in training. In 1996, he became one of the founding members of the Atlanta Christian Church, pastored by and founded by Dr. Vernon J. Mathis. He was later installed as a deacon. Deacon Gray served faithfully as a deacon and member of the Adult Choir at his church, as well as starting and leading the Church’s Nursing Home Ministry until hid passing. Deacon Gray served as a foster parent for over ten years. He also operated his own vegetable stand at the Farmer’s Market. This gave him an opportunity to share the Word of God with all who stopped by. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Tallie Gray, Jr., La Royal Parks, Kennie C. gray and Gene Threats; and one sister, Rosa Gray. On early Sunday morning July 24, 2022, the Lord called his name, he answered the call and went home to eternal rest. He was greeted by “Well done thy good and faithful servant, well done.” His departure has saddened the hearts of his family, but his memory will live on. Jimmie leaves to cherish his memory three sisters, Mrs. Frances Gray Royal and Ms. Annie Ruth Gray both of Riverdale, GA, and Mrs. Bobbie Gray Meadows of Stone Mountain, GA; one aunt, Mrs. Josephine Kindred of West Palm Beach, FL; his beloved pastor and church family, Dr. Vernon Mathis and The Atlanta Christian Church; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends all who will miss him dearly.
