Mr. Floyd Alton Strickland Was born on August 5, 1934 in Molena, Georgia. He was the eldest child born to the late Rev. Frank R. Strickland and the late Alice Parks Strickland. He departed this life on June 14, 2021. He was preceded in death by his former wife Ms. Doris Lewis Strickland, one brother and one sister, Rev. David Strickland and Dr. Betty Strickland, and other close relatives. Floyd accepted Christ at an early age and remained a faithful servant. Floyd was a member of Mary Lizzie Baptist Church throughout most of his childhood and later joined Smith Chapel Baptist Church where he remained as an active member.’ Floyd graduated from Drake High School in 1952 and joined the Air Force shortly thereafter. Floyd continued his education following his return from military service by attending and graduating from Morehouse College with a degree in Business, He later received a master’s degree in Library Science from Atlanta University. Floyd held several positions throughout his career within Atlanta Public Schools, Albany State College and Fulton County Juvenile Court. He retired form the Georgia Department of Corrections in 1998 after 23 years of dedicated service. Floyd was an avid sports fan and followed his beloved Georgia Bulldogs in good times and bad. Surviving his departure with cherished memories are his three daughters, Ms. Valerie Jones, Mrs. Sharon (Rico) Robinson and Ms. Lisa Strickland; his remaining siblings William L. Strickland, brother and Reverend Dr. Marva Harden Sister; many grandchildren and great grandchildren’ sister-in-law, Lizette C. Strickland, close cousin Rosa Dawson, Cynthia McCrary and Dorothy Owens, close friend Pat Taylor and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
