Mr. Harold Murchison, the son of the late Joe Harris Murchison, Sr. and Gussie Lee Murchison, was born on September 17, 1946 in Upson County, GA. He was raised in the Salem Community of Upson County. He attended school at Cunningham Elementary in Yatesville, GA, and Drake High School in Thomaston, GA. Harold was drafted and went into the United States Army on January 4, 1966, and he was honorably discharged on January 3, 1968. He attained the rank of Corporal/Specialist E-4, and he also served in Vietnam as a member of the 43rd Engineer Battalion while in the Army. His Army awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device 196, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars and one Overseas Bar. On January 26, 1969, Harold married his longtime sweetheart, Lena Kendall. They were married for over 50 plus years and shared a wonderful life full of love and happy times. Harold moved to Atlanta, GA in 1968 and went to work for Lockheed in Marietta, GA. He worked there for many years but would later become employed with the U.S. Postal Service in Atlanta, GA, where he retired in the summer of 2009. He loved working on cars and was a great teacher and mentor to other young men in the family and his community. He touched the lives of so many he came in contact with. Harold was a very loving person and will be missed. When you saw Harold, you could always expect a kind word and words of encouragement. He set the example for all to follow, and his shoes can never be filled. To know him was to love him. He has left behind a long good life full of love. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joe H. Murchison, Jr. On Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at approximately 5:00 A.M., Harold Murchison closed his eyes to this old world and opened them to the new day of eternal life in Heaven. Many hearts were saddened but will remember him with love. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Lena K. Murchison of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Melissa Murchison and Carmelia Murchison both of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Rodney Mattox, Ramsey Nared, Caden Nared, and Riley Nared; five sisters, Betty M. (Lester) Copeland of McDonough, GA, Ora Murchison and Carrie Bell Howard both of Roberta, GA, Joan Lesley Robinson of Atlanta, GA, and Elaine Taylor of Thomaston, GA; two brothers, Frankco (Ida) Murchison of Riverdale, GA and Bobby Ray Murchison,Sr., (Terri) of East Point, GA; four sisters-in-law, Deloris Murchison of HA, Savannah Napier, Annie Pringle and Dora Williams all of Thomaston, GA; aunts and uncles Lizzie (Wilford) Barnes of Forest Park, GA, Cleona Raines, Gilbert Murchison both of Roberta, GA, Henry (Gladys) Miller, Elder Roosevelt (Evangeline ) Miller, Jr. and Raymond Miller all of Thomaston, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends including the Murchison, Kendall, Miller and Ivey families.
