.Mr. Herbert Jackson, affectionately known as "Chip" by family and friends, was
born on October 26, 1947, in Lamar County, GA, to the late Mr. Marcellus
Jackson and Mrs. Fannie Maude Ogletree Jackson. He was the sixth of fourteen
children.
Herbert was educated in the Lamar County School System and, at an early age,
joined Bethel Baptist Church. His life was marked by a strong work ethic, and he
dedicated many years to various trades, including working at Dundee Mill, Bibb
Mill, as a brick mason, carpenter, and electrician. His skill set was vast, and he
was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Herbert had a zest for life. He loved fishing, joking around with loved ones, and
enjoying sports in his leisure time. His warm personality and sense of humor
made him a beloved figure among family and friends.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Mrs. Fannie Maude Ogletree
Jackson and Mr. Marcellus Jackson, as well as his siblings: Annie B, William
"Sonny" Jackson, Christine Sutton, James "Bookie" Jackson, and Nathan Paul
Jackson.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of his
family. He is survived by his two children, Travis Sherod Jackson and Karen
Elizabeth Barkley (Rodney) of Roberta, GA; six sisters, Fannie Doris Davis of St.
Louis, MO, Bobbie Francis Elerby, Nellie Grace Lyons, Robin (Randy) Foster of
Barnesville, GA, Willie Maude Perry of Conyers, GA, Narvis Jean Washington of
Griffin, GA; two brothers, Johnny Ogletree of Barnesville, GA, and Grady
Jackson of St. Louis, MO; one aunt, Mary Ogletree of Barnesville, GA; and a host
of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends who will mourn
his passing.
He is also remembered by a grandson, J.T. Jackson, whom he reared as his
own, and special cousin, Carl Ogletree.
Herbert leaves behind many special friends, including Carlene Barkley Jackson,
Micheal Folson, Vickie Jackson, Charlene Barkley, and Willie Walker
