Obituary For Mother Eunice Thompson

Mother Eunice Thompson, affectionately known as Mother Thompson, the daughter of the late Harold and Anna Jeffrey, was born on February 14, 1930, in St. Matthews, SC. The family came to Corona, NY in 1939.

Mother Thompson attended Primary School 143, Junior High School 16 and Mable Dean Beacon Vocational High School where she was trained as a machine operator. Mother Thompson worked many years in the garment industry.

In 1949, she married Mr. William Chandler. One daughter, Vivian Chandler Neal, was born from this union. Mr. Chandler passed in 1953. In 1955, she married Mr. John H. Thompson. There were four children born from this union, Teresa Thompson, Shamsiddin Abdullah, Veronica Brown and Sarah L. Thompson.

Mother Thompson became a born-again Christian in the Bronx, NY. She was an active part of the youth groups at the church. Upon relocation to Far Rockaway, NY, she joined the Refuge Church of Christ. Elder Leroy Joseph was her pastor. She was active in the Missionary Department, Senior Choir, Willing Workers Auxiliary and took pride in taking care of the communion linens.

In 1990, she relocated to Thomaston, GA. after the retirement of her husband. They became foster parents and cared for many children. Mother Thompson became a member of The Henderson Temple, under Pastor Willie Mann.

Mother Thompson was the oldest and only surviving child of the Jeffrey Family; her brother and three sisters preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Thompson, her daughter, Vivian Chandler Neal, a granddaughter, Natasha Thompson, and a grandson, Marvin Neal. On Thursday, May 16, 2024, the Lord called her from labor to rest. Her spirit took flight and went home to eternal rest. She will be greatly missed by her family, her church family and many friends that loved her dearly.

She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Teresa Thompson, son, Shamsiddin Abdullah, daughters, Veronica Brown and Sarah L. Thompson; Lattin Woods (Ruthie) who she raised, LaQuanda Thompson and Jamarcus Thompson who she adopted; grandchildren, William Chandler, Tiffany Thompson, Tymel Abdullah and Paisley Thompson; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Chandler, Troy Sharpe and Tori Sharpe; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

She will forever be remembered as Mom, Nana T, Mrs. T, Mrs. Eunice and Mother Thompson.
