Mr. Elvis Lewis Searcy, more affectionately known as “Sonny,” was born on July 31, 1950, in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia, to the late Mrs. Louise “Tiny” Walker Searcy and the late Mr. Etres Elvis Searcy. He received his early education in the public schools of Upson County.
At an early age, Sonny joined New Lincoln Park, where he faithfully served and worshipped. He was an active member of the Culinary Committee and was known as a committed worshipper. He never allowed his condition to hinder his service to God, always giving his best. Sonny loved attending church and often encouraged others to do the same.
He was the father of five children and worked diligently to provide for them. He was employed by a food distribution company as an assembly line worker. Sonny was a loving father and grandfather who deeply cherished his children and grandchildren.
In his earlier years, he enjoyed cooking, working on cars, spending time with his nieces and nephews, traveling, and listening to music, including old school, gospel, and a variety of other genres.
Sonny resided at Providence Nursing Home for over ten years, but he never allowed the environment to define his spirit. He enjoyed food prepared outside the facility, took pride in dressing daily, and for many years even maintained his own refrigerator. He especially enjoyed celebrating his birthdays and Christmas with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, “T.K.”, and three sisters, Virginia Searcy, Mazie Weaver, and Lamanda Atwater.
On Sunday, March 29, 2026, the Lord called Sonny home to rest. His spirit took flight and returned to his Heavenly Father.
He leaves to cherish his memory five children: Alvis Lewis Searcy of McDonough, GA, Ms. Priscilla L. Searcy of Phoenix, AZ, Mr. Michael Ogletree of Atlanta, GA, Ms. Alicia U. Searcy of Riverdale, GA, and Nefetari Madden (Michael) Koehler of Madison, GA; fourteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings: Mrs. Annie Ruth Smith, Mr. Bobby L. Searcy, Mrs. Dorothy Carthon, Mrs. Elaine (Tony) Walker, Mrs. Naomi (Eddie) Flemister, and Rev. Ralph (Emma) Searcy, all of Thomaston, GA; Mr. Horace Searcy, Mr. Lonnie Searcy, and Mrs. Deloris (Sanford) Montgomery, all of Atlanta, GA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
