Obituary For Mr. Freddie Baker

Freddie Baker was the third child of Lizzie R. Baker and Zettie Baker, born on August 18, 1944 in Oakland City, Atlanta, Georgia. Freddie had two sisters, Annette Broadnax (Alphonza) and Donnie Slaughter (Norman) and two brothers, Alvin Baker and Edward Baker (deceased). He was raised in Carver Homes and graduated from Luther J. Price High School – “Home of the Wildcats.” After graduating from high school, Freddie honorably served in the United States Army for four years, garnering many exceptional achievements such as the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. After receiving an honorable discharge, Freddie entered the workforce as a civilian serving the Atlanta Police Department as an Office for 27 years. Freddie met his wonderful wife Brenda in 1976, and they were married for 43 years. Together, they enjoyed traveling, entertaining friends and family and spending time with their grandson Ace. Ace had a special bond with his “papa” – they enjoyed baking cakes, reading the newspaper and eating breakfast together while sharing the occasional war story. In his free time, Freddie had many joys of life! He loved traveling, watching western movies, cooking, grilling, fishing and listening to the Blues. He had green thumb as a master gardener and could build almost anything with a special interest in carpentry. With a mind of a philosopher, he had a deep interest in learning and studying historical events- as and ace at trivia! Most importantly, Freddie was notoriously known for his love of baking the most famous and best tasting cakes! Freddie was deeply loved by all of his family. He is survived by his wife Brenda Baker (Newport News, VA); son, Terrence Baker (Columbus, OH) ; daughter Felicia Jones (Atlanta, GA); son Edwin Brown (Elkton, MD); daughter Nyota Baker (Hampton,VA); daughter Kayla Creech (Savannah, GA); and grandson Ace Tyler Albritton (Atlanta,GA).

Condolences & Tributes

Add A Condolence

I often wondered what happened to Freddie Baker whom was a very caring friend I met at Sadies Mays Nursing home. He was always offering advice throughout my years of raising my son. He was a good friend to my step father, Jimmy Anthony. May he rest in peace and my memories of him will never be forgotten. My condolences to the family.

Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
