Mr. James Beckham, Sr., was born on October 11, 1945, to the late Mrs. Gladys Collier Beckham and the late Mr. Sammy Beckham in Molena, Pike Couty, Georgia. He was educated in the public school of Pike County. At an early age he joined the Robert Chapel United Methodist Church.
He met Ms. Marie Andrews, the love of his life, and they were united in holy matrimony on February 25, 1968. To support his family, Mr. Beckham was employed by Martha Mills, where he worked faithfully until his retirement. They shared 49 loving years together until her passing on March 17, 2017. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
After his marriage, James began attending Fellowship Baptist Church. He loved hearing the preached Word of God and listening to gospel music. He could often be found attending gospel programs throughout Thomaston and the surrounding areas.
During his leisure time, he loved family gatherings, going to church, dining out, dancing, watching westerns and watching all the pastors on television, especially Pastor R.L. White of Atlanta, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, Dorothy Beckham and Queen Ester Owens and seven brothers, Ray Beckham, Jimmy Beckham, Bennie Walter Beckham, Samuel Beckham, Chappel Beckham, Richard “Sonny” Beckham and Eddie “Jim” Beckham. On Saturday, December 20, 2025, the Lord called his name. He answered the call and went home to rest. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family.
He is survived by four children: Mr. Jeffery (Lisa) Beckham and Mr. James Beckham, Jr. both of Thomaston, GA, Mrs. Judy Andrews-Thompson (Kenneth) of Hampton, GA and Mr. Tony (Sandra) Andrews of Thomaston, GA; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Willie Mae Weston and Mrs. Willie Jean Dennis both of Thomaston, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law include: Mrs. Mary Lizzie Parks Beckham of Molens, GA, Mrs. Diane (Richard) Dennis, Mrs. Chancy Beckham, Mr. Henry Andrews, Mr. Clarence Chambless, all of Thomaston, GA and Mr. Stanley (Nakia) Grimsley of Douglasville, GA; one uncle, Mr. Leonard Andrews of Thomaston, GA; a good friend and neighbor, Mrs. Louise Colquitt of Thomaston, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
