Obituary For Mr. John Albert King

John Albert King was born on November 17, 1946, in Upson County, Georgia, to the late Mr. Willie Harvey King, and the late Mrs. Lossini Maine King. He received his education at Thomaston Training School.

John married the late Patricia “P.K.” King on October 10, 1969 and moved to Atlanta, GA.

At an early age, John gave his life to the Lord at Crystal Hill Baptist Church. Later in life, he attended Mt. Ephraim Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.

John, affectionately known as “Jabo” by his family and friends, was a man whose presence brought warmth and joy to those around him. He began his working years in various textile mills in Thomaston, Georgia, before relocating to Atlanta as a young man. There, he held several positions before beginning a dedicated 25-year career as a Machine Operator and Forklift driver with Mead Packing Paper Company, where he remained until its closure in 2000.

John found great joy in life’s simple pleasures like watching Westerns, Sports TV and talking on the phone everyday with his brothers. He loved fishing, grilling, and cooking for his family. He especially enjoyed an occasional meal at Zesto and The Varsity. He also took great pride in keeping his lawn and his neighbor’s lawn neat and beautiful.

A devoted sports fan, he proudly supported all of Atlanta’s home teams, with a special love for the Atlanta Braves.

John became a beloved and dependable presence in his community. He was especially devoted to the senior citizens around him, often serving as a trusted companion and friend. He shared a close bond with the late Mrs. Beatice Thompson and the late Mrs. Elizabeth Hutchenson, whom he lovingly assisted by driving them to restaurants, shopping trips, church services, and local senior events. Together, they also gave back to the community through charitable contributions, supporting disaster victims and those experiencing homelessness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, Rev. Charles King, and two sisters, Evangelist Glori King and Josephine King. On Saturday, May 2, 2026, the Lord called his name. He answered the call and his spirit took flight and returned to the Heavenly Father.

John leaves to cherish his memory, four children: Jennifer (Dexter) Colbert of Atlanta, GA, Anthony (Rochelle) Daniel of Thomaston, GA, Jonathan King of Thomaston, GA and Jason King of Atlanta, GA; two nieces that he affectionally considered his own, Cassandra (Rodney) Cade of Jonesboro, GA and Dreka Roberts of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren of Thomaston, GA, Ashley Daniel and Jay Daniel along with two great-grandchildren, Kamya and Milachi; four brothers, James King of Thomaston, GA, Rev. Harvey (Peggy) King and Charlie King both of Atlanta, GA and Marvin King of Alabama; one sister, Juanita Graddick of Thomaston, GA; one aunt, Mrs. Louise Maine of Thomaston, GA; beloved sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Eppinger, Bobbie King, Geraldine “Lynn” King, Ms. Carmen Chatman and Ms. Carolyn Raines; an affectionate long-time friend, Ms. Elizabeth “Pickle” Gordon of Thomaston, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.

John’s contagious smile, his love for God, and his deep devotion to his family and community will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
