Obituary For Mr. John Solomon Mays JR.

Life Reflection of John Solomon Mays Jr. Affectionately known as "Lil John" or "John John," John Solomon Mays Jr. was born on July 17, 1976, in Upson County, Georgia, to the late Mr. John Solomon Mays Sr. and Mrs. Catherine Phillips Mays. On August 7, 2025, John peacefully transitioned from this earthly life at WellStar North Fulton Medical Center in Roswell, Georgia.

John was educated in the Lamar County School System and graduated from Lamar County Comprehensive High School. He later chose a fulfilling and hard-working career as a truck driver, working for Estes Express and later with G3 Timber LLC until his health began to decline. Whether on the road or at home, John carried himself with quiet strength, determination, and a work ethic that was admired by many.

John’s life was defined by love, loyalty, and laughter. He was a devoted father, a cherished brother and uncle, and a steadfast friend. He found joy in simple moments and had a heart big enough to hold everyone he loved. His presence brought comfort, his smile brought light, and his spirit brought warmth to every room.

A man of faith, John was a member of East Mount Sinai Baptist Church, where he found spiritual grounding and community. He lived his life guided by strong values and genuine compassion, always willing to lend a hand or offer words of encouragement.

John's legacy lives on in the lives he touched, especially his beloved son, Mr. Rashad Mays of Forsyth, GA. He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Mrs. Charlise (Danny) Barlow, Mrs. Kathy (Rodney) Weston, and Ms. Faye Brice, all of Barnesville, GA; and Mr. Richard (Kimberly) Farley of Stockbridge, GA. His memory is lovingly cherished by his nieces: Marquita (Sekhu) Gentle of South Carolina and Kelsey Smikes of Griffin, GA; his nephews: Rodrekus Weston and Landyn Brice of Barnesville, GA.

John’s extended family includes his caring aunts: Ms. Minnie Lee Fletcher, Ms. Charlene Richardson, and Ms. Marsha Richardson, all of Barnesville; and his uncle, Mr. Charlie Frank (Carol) Phillips, also of Barnesville. He held a special bond with his god-sister, Katiyah Brown, and was loved by a host of cousins and countless dear friends who will forever remember his kind heart and loyal spirit.

Though his time here was shorter than we would have wished, the love John gave, the memories he made, and the life he lived will forever remain in our hearts. His journey may have ended here, but his story, spirit, and legacy live on in each of us.

Condolences & Tributes

Add A Condolence

It is with sincere sympathy that we extend our condolences for your loss. We pray that you will find healing, comfort and peace through our Lord Jesus Christ who loves you beyond measure! Death is something we will all encounter and if we don't make a decision now before we die, about giving our lives to Him, we will face serious consequences for rejecting Him and His love for us, after our departure from this world. Jesus paid a tremendous price for us by taking the wrath of God on the cross, on our behalf, for our sins and rebellion against God. God, being our Creator, sent Jesus, His Son, to lay down His life for us, so we would never have to face God's eternal judgement once we leave this earth. Death is not the end for any of us. We will all live on, but where is determined by whether or not we surrender our lives to the Lordship of Jesus Christ who is the only way to God the Father and to our salvation from sin, death and destruction. Jesus is only a prayer away. A simple prayer like "Lord Jesus, I believe you are God's Son who He sent to pay the price for my mistakes, sins, and rebellion against God. Please forgive me for all I have done in rebelling against you, Lord. I now give and surrender my life to you and ask that you be my Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me from God's eternal judgement and allowing me to now be a part of you and your royal family forever. In your name, I pray. Amen. " God bless you and keep you always during this hour of your grief. I pray you will realize that you're never alone when you're in Christ Jesus. His Word guarantees us He will never leave or forsake us.
