Marion D. Martin, Jr., our beloved, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, at the age of 85. He was born October 26, 1939, in LaGrange, Georgia, to the late Marion D. Martin, Sr. and Lillian Ward Martin. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in celebrating a life filled with passion, purpose, and love.
He graduated from East Depot High School in LaGrange, GA and enrolled in the U.S. Army. He later went on to work for the Army Depot for 8 years and the U.S. Postal Service for 29 years. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after a total of 41 years of civil service.
In 1964, he married the love of his life, Willie Mae Carter. From this union, came two daughters, Bonita Lynn and Donna LaShea. In 1998, he joined the Word of Faith Church in East Point, Georgia, under the pastorate of Bishop Dale C. Bronner. Later, his membership was confirmed with the Word of Faith Love Center under Dr. Reginald P. Garmon.
Marion carried an unshakable spirit and an insatiable curiosity throughout life. He had a true passion for football, fishing, movies, gardening, photography, and bowling. He never stopped learning new things. He enjoyed learning computer programs and creating movies and short clips. Marion approached every endeavor with dedication and heart. Beyond personal pursuits, he was a pillar of kindness and generosity. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand, always putting others before himself. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Marion was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Bennie Martin and Melvin Downer and 2 sisters, Linda Ector and Pat Downer.
Marion is survived by his loving wife, Willie Mae Carter-Martin; 2 daughters, Bonita Lynn Martin and Donna Martin-Tanks (Samuel Jr.); 4 grandchildren, Quincy Smith, Chelsea Tanks Colquitt (Keith Jr.), Zoe Tanks and Zaria Tanks; 1 great-grandchild, Keith Colquitt III (Tre); 1 brother, Edward Martin; 1 Godson, Michael Graham; 2 sister-in-laws, Virginia Bryant (Alonzo) and Gloria Cutts; 2 brother-in-laws, Clifford Carter and Horace Carter, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Rest peacefully, Marion. Your passion, kindness, and love will echo in our hearts forever.
