Obituary For Mr. Michael Anthony Hicks

Mr. Michael Anthony Hicks, Sr. was born February 1, 1973, to Mrs. Rachael Hicks-Hobbs and the late Rev. Alonzo Taylor in Thomaston, Georgia. He was a graduate of R.E. Lee High School, where he made first-team All- State and broke the school's all-time single-season rushing record and the record for most touchdowns. He also broke Herschel Walker's high school rushing record. He went on and attended college at South Carolina State University where, as a running back, he became the 1995 MEAC Offensive Player of the year long with other accolades, which led to his 1996 NFL draft selection to the Chicago Bears.

After football, Mike went back to school and received his B.S. in Industrial Education, attended the University of Phoenix, where he received his MBA and his certification in Advanced Cyber Security. He was a 2014 Hall of Fame Inductee at SC State and a 2017 Hall of Fame Inductee in Thomaston-Upson County Hall of Fame.

He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Duluth, GA. and accepted Christ at an early age. He was a hard worker and loved his family, football and the cooking channel. Mike's beautiful kids were his world. He was gentle, kind-hearted, peaceful and greeted everyone he met with a smile that could light up any room. We will all sorely miss his warm heart, giving nature and sense of humor.

Michael was preceded in death by his father the Rev. Alonzo Taylor, half sisters, Shelia Taylor and Minister Lakeitha Taylor. The day Michael begin his earthly journey would eventually be the date his earthly journey ended. While his sudden transition saddens our hearts, we now know that he is reunited with those family members he loved so dearly.

Michael's legacy and fond memories will live on in the hearts of his family he loved so much, mother, Mrs. Racheal (Kenneth) Hobbs of Thomaston; daughter, Makayla D. Hicks, son, Michael A. Hicks Jr. (Mikie) both of Suwanee; mother of his children, Tami LaRay of Suwannee; adopted brothers and sisters, Drenda (Charles) McCier of Fairburn, Derrick (Angela) Leach of Stone Mountain, Quashauna Hobbs, LaShauna Hobbs both of Thomaston, and Ashley Willis of Barnesville; brothers and sisters, Debra Taylor Meadows, Nida Taylor, and Roderick (Bernita) Johnson; aunts Ms. Margaret Thornton of Thomaston, Ms. Julia Hosley of Barnesville, Ms. Anna Hicks of Fairburn and Mrs. Linda (Georgie) Holland of Fort Valley; an uncle , Mr. James (Vivian) Parker of Barnesville. Cousins, Classmates, teammates o South Carolina State College, who will all miss him dearly.
