Obituary For Mr. Willie Floyd Hamm

Mr. Willie Floyd Hamm passed on Friday, January 27, 2023. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Lamar County Fine Arts Auditorium Interment was held in sand Hill Christian Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery. MR. WILLIE FLOYD HAMM was born to the late Mr. Wilbur Hamm and the late Mrs. Annie Kate V. Hamm on March 18, 1958, in Lamar County, Georgia. He grew up with eight brothers and sisters. His fondest memories were times shared with them on the family farm. Mr. Hamm confessed his love to Jesu Christ at an early age and became a member of the Sand Hill Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. He enjoyed working and serving alongside his parents and grandparents by participating in many of the church’s outreach ministries. In his adulthood, he also worked and served in the metro Atlanta area communities by mentoring the youth of the local schools and those involved in and affected by the juvenile justice system. The education of Mr. Hamm began at Booker Elementary Middle, and Junior High schools. He attended and graduated from Lamar County High School in 1976. During his middle and high school years, he became letterman on the track and field, football, and wrestling teams. His extracurricular activities included being a member of the automotive shop, Future Farmers of America, and 4H club where horticulture competitions earned him many awards. To further his vocational career, Willie enlisted in the United States Army and faithfully served for four years s a heavy equipment engineer until he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. During his years of service, Mr. Hamm had the honor of participating as a member of the United States Army Track and Field team at the 1980 Olympics. He began his professional career By working in Security Service industry and later began employment with the United States Postal Service for 40 years, retiring as a certified safety and health occupation and training specialist. He earned an associate’s degree in this chosen field from Texas A&M University in Houston, Texas. Following his spinal cord injury and recovery, Mr. Hamm’s rehabilitation was focused on restoring health and wellness with much support from family and friends. A valued lesson learned was one of faith, hope, hard work, and perseverance. This led him to devoting much of his time and talents throughout the communities and schools of Lamar County in many capacities. A Life’s goal of teaching, coaching, and mentoring students, parents, and peers gave him the drive he needed to fulfill a calling and mission to serve. The lives he touched in turn gave him life. Not one day went by without him showing appreciation and gratitude. Mr. Hamm enjoyed all sports teams, listening to 70s and 80s music, and participating in car show events with the Corvette Club of Atlanta. An ongoing passion of his was to take time to “dress” up the cars for himself and his brothers. One of his special projects was his 1960 Chevy Malibu to be restored, which in process today thanks to a friend and colleague.

Mr. Hamm, a caring, kind, loving, and giving person transitioned to his new home on Friday, January 27, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Wilbur Hamm and Mrs. Annie K. Hamm; brothers, Charlie Hamm, Wilbur Hamm, Jr. (Luella), and Allen Hamm; and sister, Emma Hood (Sonny). Those he leaves to cherish his memories, life and legacy are: his devoted three children, felines Calico, Dae Dae, and Nubby; brothers, Eddie Hamm and Reverend Reginald Hamm (Louanne); sisters, Annie Ruth Hamm and Elaine Hamm Banks (Reverend William); two aunts, Dorothy Traylor and Ethel Eleby; and a host of special nephews, nieces, cousins, and many dear friends
