Mrs. Ethel Louise Osbie Jacks, more affectionately known as “Polly,” was born in Union, SC, to the late Mrs. Hettie Jones Osbie and the late Mr. Willie Jones on May 9, 1932. At an early age, she joined the Saint Paul Baptist Church in Union, SC. She was educated in the public schools and graduated from Sims High School. In her early adult years, she traveled from South Carolina to Worcester, MA. She met her husband, Roosevelt Jacks, and they were later moved to Thomaston, GA. They were joined in holy matrimony on July 5, 1954. To this union, two children were born. She and her husband made a wonderful life together, building a home and raising their children. After moving to Thomaston, she furthered her education at Upson Tech in the Nursing Program. She earned her LPN license and was employed at Upson County Hospital for twenty-seven years. Mrs. Jacks later joined the Saint Mary A.M.E. Church. She loved the worship service and supported it financially with her service. She joined the Senior choir and served as president for many years. She was a member of the Missionary Society, president of the Church Beautification Committee, and St. Mary’s representative for the House of Care. In the community, she was a member of the Elite Social and Savings Club and one of the founding members of the Upson County Black Women’s Coalition. After the passing of her husband on May 1, 2005, Mrs. Jacks continued to live in Thomaston. She and twin sister “Molly,” spent time visiting and traveling. In addition to traveling, Mrs. Jacks enjoyed going to church, baking, sewing, and taking care of her home. When her health began to fail, she moved to live with her daughter. She was missed in the church and in the community. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Cornelia Turner, Eunice Smith and Eddie Lou Moore Brown; two brothers, Sylvester Osbie and James Osbie; and one great-grandson, Jaylen Jacks Lyons. On Tuesday, August 6, 2020, the Lord called her from labor to reward. Her spirit took flight, and she went home to rest. She will be greatly missed by her family, her church family, and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory: two children, Mr. Bernard Ricardo “Rick” (Charletta) Jacks of Conley, GA, and Ms. Kalynn Jacks of Bonaire, GA; two grandchildren, Mr. Ricardo Wilson Jacks of Atlanta, GA, and Ms. Jacinta Jacks of Conyers, GA; one great-granddaughter, Ms. Parker Leigh Jacks of Forest Park, GA; one sister, Mrs. Effie “Molly,” McBeth of Montgomery , AL ; four devoted friends, Mrs. Rosa Lee M.
