Let me tell you about a remarkable lady, Mrs. Florine (Dent) Hudson. Florine was born in July of 1947 in Culloden, GA to the late Mose Lee and Tommie Lee Dent. She was clearly remarkable since birth considering her loving parents went on to have seven more children. At an early age, she joined New Lebanon Baptist Church. She attended Crawford County Schools and there she made a lot of dear connections with other students.
Life continued and Florine relocated to Detroit, MI with her cousin. During their travels, she met a distinguished man who would later become her husband of 58 years, Mr. Oliver “Hut” Hudson Jr. While living in Detroit, she held several job positions, from being an elevator operator to being the supervisor of housekeeping for over 30 years at Sinai-Grace Hospital. Just like her grade school years, there she also made a lot of close connections that she held closely to heart to her very last day. In essence, one thing Florine, who was affectionately known as “Flo” to many, could do is spark up a conversation with a stranger then leave with a new acquaintance and spreading hope.
Florine was such a special woman. Her and Oliver bore two beautiful daughters, Angela Denise and Kimberly Ann. They were a close-knit family that exuded love and care at all times while living in the same neighborhood on the westside of Detroit for over 40 years. Flo enjoyed a plethora of things such as bowling, baking, doing word search puzzles, listening to gospel and blues music, and most of all spending time with family both in Detroit and back in her hometown. She loved the sight of fireworks, Christmas lights, and beautifully bloomed flowers.
As life continued, her family began to extend. Flo had the esteemed pleasure of being the “Grannie” to five grandchildren, Antanina (“Nina”), Armoni (who proceeded her in death), Aja, Leonard (“Cheldon”), and Avery. When you talked to Flo there was a 99% chance that one if not all of them would be mentioned at some point during the conversation. The love they shared as grandparent and grandchildren was truly top-tier. The love of a Grannie didn’t stop there; it ran so deep that she had a whole name change. She later became the proud “MeMaw” to triplets, Dallas, Oliver, and James, Maison, and Niamani. Her heart strings extended miles and miles with her strong bond and connections to so many family members and friends.
While this absolutely phenomenal woman will be deeply missed there are so countless people who have a plethora of fond memories with her. She leaves behind, her beloved husband, Oliver, her loving daughters, Angela and Kimm, and her stepson, Nathaniel. In addition, her awesome grandchildren, Nina, Aja, Cheldon, Avery, and her honorary grandson, Linn who affectionately called her “Grams”. To continue, her great-grandchildren, Dallas, Oliver, James, Maison, and Niamani will carry on her tenacity. Her love and hope filled siblings, Lucille (George), Louise (Benny), Sallie, Mose Lee Jr. (Anita), Joseph, Patra (Otis), and Robert “BayBro”, Edna Mae, Roosevelt, Elaine, and Patricia. Sisters by upbringing, Marilyn, Betty, and Susan. Her very devoted aunt, Mary Davis. Honorary godson, Maurice (Arlette). She leaves in her memory the large host of cousins, nieces, and nephews who have touched her dearly with their different accomplishments, milestones and most of all love. Lastly, but just as wholeheartedly, she leaves behind “chosen family” and friends who encouraged her, whom she had encouraged and they shared mutual love. While her passing was sudden, her work on this earth for The Lord was well toiled. As you miss her, remember her infamous words, “God got me. Just put your trust in the Lord.”
Send flowers to the service of Mrs. Florine Dent Hudson
I remember the smiles and how she made me laugh. You will be missed. My prayers of comfort are with all of you. Remember Revelation 21:4 where God said He would wipe all tears from our eyes and death will be no more. Also, at John 5:28 Jesus said "all those in the Memorial tomb or grave will hear his voice and come out." Please keep this hope alive in your mind and heart, as I have done. Love all of you.
Our Prayers and Sincere Condolences go out for you all! Family, as you reflect on your last memories of Florine and pray through difficult times, always remember Jesus promise. "Let not your heart be troubled, believe in God, believe in Me. In my Father's house are many mansions;if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know." Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going and how can we know the way?" Jesus said to him,"I am the way, the truth, and the Life, no one comes to the Father, except through Me."
