Mrs. Jonie Gordon was born July 1, 1943, to the late John Henry and Gertrude Barnes in Barnesville, Georgia. She graduated from Booker High School and was the oldest of 14 children. Growing up in Barnesville, Jonie took pride in helping raise her siblings.
She was a mother of four and enjoyed spending time with family and loved ones. In her spare time, she really enjoyed gardening, harvesting fruit and caring for her many plants. Jonie had a heart of gold, a mother's love that never wavered. Her warmth touched every person she encountered. Though her body grew weak, her love is eternal.
Jonie worked at Piedmont Hospital, where she met Rev. Marvin Gordon. They went on to marry and cherished 38 wonderful years of marriage together until her journey came to a peaceful close.
She is preceded in death by two sons, Napoleon and Carlo McCier, two sisters, Brenda Turner and Mildred Barnes Merritt, four brothers Melvin Barnes, Henry C. Barnes, Lloyd and Troy Barnes.
Jonie's sweet and gentle heart will continue to live on in her family that she so loved and appreciated. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Rev. Marvin Gordon if Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter, Valerie McCier (opie) of Conyers, Georgia; one son, Charles McCier (Drenda) of Fairburn, Georgia; bonus sons, Craig Adams and Robert Willingham of Atlanta, Georgia; siblings, Kathy Smith (Jimmy) of Ellenwood, Georgia, Majorie Watts of Atlanta, Georgia, Celestine Carter of Union City, Georgia, Ola Watts (Tony) of Barnesville, Georgia, Ester Watts (Michael) of Jackson, Georgia, Jimmy Barnes (Mary) of Barnesville, Georgia, Cornelius Barnes of (Min. Robin) of Barnesville, Georgia and Artis Barnes of Barnesville, Georgia; Grandchildren, Taliah, Mariah, Reshad, Tabron, Artrayvious, Dajionae, Jessica, Mario, Napoleon, Constance, Cornelius, Kenyatta, Carlo, Carletta, Camerion and Deondre; host of nieces, nephews, cousins and church members and friends that will miss her dearly.
