Mrs. Mamie Jewel Allen of Griffin passed away Friday, October 1, 2021, at Wellstar Spalding Regional Hospital. Mrs. Allen was born October 13, 1934 in Barnesville Ga. to the late Mamie Watts and Homer Head. She was raised by Mamie and the late Emmitt Glass. She was joined in holy matrimony to Leonard Allen, Sr. on May 7, 1955. They were married for 52 years. Mrs. Allen is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Allen Sr.; daughter, Linda Louise Weems; brother, MC Glass; and sister-in-law, Tess Glass and Sons-in-law, Harold Weems and Ralph Morris. Mrs. Allen was the loving mother of 10 children. She was an honored homemaker who worked tirelessly alongside her husband and children on the family’s farm for most of her life. For many years, she graciously served as child care provider for many of her precious grandchildren. She adored children and impacted generations with the upmost, diligence and relentless devotion. She joined Central Baptist Church in Milner, Ga. at a young age and faithfully served until her death. She was a committed and dutiful usher in the early years and later a model deaconess. She was a woman of devout faith and gave freely in service to others. She will always be remembered as “Mama Jewel” because of her genuine nurturing and caring nature. She touched the lives of many with her sweet humble spirit, unconditional love and pureness of heart. Mother Allen leaves to cherish her memory, her children; Rev. Gary (Janet) Allen of Milner Ga., Leonard Allen Jr. of Griffin Ga., Mary Allen Morris, of Fayetteville, Ga., Kathleen Allen of Griffin, Ga., Gloria (Grady) Covington of Fayetteville, GA., Barbara (Gilbert) Tillman of Ashburn, Va., Wanda (Cecil) Spear of Barnesville, Ga., Lesa (N’Gai) Allen-Gaither of Fort Mill, SC., Catressa (Reginald) Risper of Griffin, Ga.; 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; sisters, Sinclair Maddox, of Atlanta, Ga., Marshall (Bill) Stinger of Tampa, Fl., and Betty Jean Marrick of Alabama.
Visitation with the family and the only public viewing will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1839, Hwy 36 East, Milner, Ga 30257 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Out of an abundance of caution and after careful consideration, the Celebration of Life and burial services will be private, due to Covid 19 safety concerns. The services will be streamed live on the Carver Road Baptist Church, Griffin Ga. face book page, Saturday, Oct 9th at 11:00 a.m.
The family looks forward to receiving visitors at the Allen family home at 483 Morgan Dairy Road, Griffin Ga, 30224 on Saturday, October 9, 2021 between the hours of 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
