Obituary For Mrs. Nora Jean Harper

Mother Nora Jean Holloway Harper was born in Molena, Pike County, Georgia to the late Jim H. Holloway and the late Meadie Parks-Holloway on May 13, 1942. She was educated in both public school systems of Pike County and Thomaston-Upson County and received her GED. Mother Harper met the love of her life, Jesse B. Harper, Jr. in 1958. The two married on March 28, 1959. To this union two daughters, Gwendolyn and Jennifer, were born. She started her working career at Molena Nursing Home. She also worked at Riverside Nursing Home. Her career included a lead operator at Lanier Electronics, Panasonic and Nacom, where she worked until she retired. After retirement, she worked part-time as a private care giver and substitute teacher for the Upson County School system and the Meriwether County School system. After sixty-one years of marriage, Deacon Jesse B. Harper, Jr. passed on February 29, 2020. Mother Harper was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She served as Clerk, Choir Member (where she served as Past President), Mother/Deaconess Board, and Culinary Committee. One of her favorite songs to sing was “God Specializes”. For several years, she prepared an annual Sunday meal for the preacher, but everyone was invited. She also loved to attend White Plains Baptist Church and Springfield Baptist Church in the Molena, GA area. In her leisure time, she enjoyed talking on the phone, working crossword puzzles, watching game shows, soap operas, mystery shows, and watching Evangelist Sandra Trice’s television ministry. Going to the beauty salon was a must. Mother Harper was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and seven siblings, Jim H. Holloway, Jr., Dave Holloway, Eulas Holloway, Randolph Holloway, Elua Holloway, Linda Faye Holloway and Mary Helen Holloway. On December 28, 2021, the Lord decided the time of Mother Harper’s departure was at hand. He summoned the angels to guide her home to her eternal resting place. Mother Harper leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Gwendolyn D. Perry and Jennifer (Bennie C. Jr.) Harris, both of Thomaston, GA; five grandchildren, Justina S. Weston of Albany, GA, Curtis L. Raines, Jr., Bennie C. Harris, III. and Brandon Furlow all of Thomaston, GA and Brenesha Gaston of Griffin, GA; three great-grandchildren, Journee C. Brown of Albany, GA, Riley Furlow of Griffin, GA, Autumn Harris of Thomaston, GA; two sisters, Geneva Cook and Ann Robinson (Anthony) both of Atlanta, GA; one brother, James Holloway of Zebulon, GA; brother and sisters-in-law, Robert (Charlene) Thompson of Thomaston, GA; Barnette Thompson-Glanton of Zebulon, GA, and Sarah Holloway of Concord, GA; three goddaughters, Shelia (Allison) Dawson of Griffin, GA, Belinda Dawson, Atlanta, GA, and Harriet Booker of Griffin, GA; she loved all of her cousins, but Queen Ester (Charles) Andrews and George (Christine) Stinson were more like a sibling; other close relatives, Dorothy Owens, Earlene Foster, Mary Passmore, and Jeanette O’Neal; devoted friends, Susie Parks, Earlene Holloway and Shirley Parks; and a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins, family and friends who will miss her dearly.
