Mother Savannah Napier was the oldest living matriarch of the Kendall-Napier family. First born of the late S.T. Kendall and Alice Traylor Kendall. She received her education in the Upson County public school system which prompted her love for reading. She loved to read scriptures. Raised with strong work ethics and drive for independence, she began her work history at an early age in orchards, farm fields, and housekeeping. She furthered her employment experience and retired with 20 years of honorable service at Martha Mills Textiles. Savannah’s nurturing of large families extended from her parents’ home to her own. She wedded J.P. Napier on July 29, 1960. She raised one son and seven daughters. She is preceded in death by her husband and only son (Larry Kendall). Savannah remained a faithful member of Gray’s Chapel AME Church throughout the years. She supported and served on several of the AME auxiliaries and ministries. Her dedication and dutiful years earned her the honored title Mother of the Church. Although a trailblazer throughout her life, Savannah is known to many for her singing. Her signature song remains “My Lord is Writing All the Time.” Also known as the Alphabet Song A to Z. To family she is also famous for her cooking, especially her sweet potato pies. She could have won ribbons for her ability to bring any plant to life. There were no limits to her devotion and love for her family. While there are many talents of Mother Savannah Napier, the greatest of all is her service to God! Let the service she gave speak for her. On January 5th God called Savannah Napier’s name and she answered. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Sallie Mae Kendall and Dora Williams, 7 brothers, Milton Kendall, Dave Kendall, Lucious Kendall, Joe Albert Kendall, Elderson Kendall, Raymond Kendall, and James Dawson.
