Obituary For Mrs. Sylvesta Parker Harris

Mother Sylvesta Parker Harris was born on November 20, 1939, to the late Mrs. Fannie Mae Reeves Parker and the late Mr. Clifford Parker in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia. She received her early education in the public schools of Upson County.

On September 8, 1958, she married her long-time childhood friend, Mr. Bennie C. Harris Sr. To this union, six children were born. They shared almost forty years of marriage until his passing on May 7, l997. To help support her family, she was employed by Martha Mills for over ten years. She also worked for the local bakery, did private duty and worked at Upson-Lee High School.

Mother Harris was a longtime member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was a past member of the choir, served on the Mother’s Ministry and was presently serving as the Mother of the Church. She enjoyed going to church and hearing the preached word of God until her health failed.

During her leisure time, she loved going to church, cooking, shopping at Walmart, watching her favorite game show, ”Family Feud” and working board games.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mr. Bennie C. Harris Sr., two children, Laverne Harris and Teresa Harris Hammond; one grandson, Carrese Colbert; three sisters, Bobbie Wyche, Mable Character and Cora T. Parker; one brother, Clifford Parker, Jr. On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the Lord called her home from labor to reward. Her spirit took flight and returned to her Heavenly Father.

She leaves to cherish her memory, four children, Mrs. Mary Davis, Mrs. Janet Raines, Minister Bennie C. (Jennifer) Harris, Jr. and Mrs. Bridget (Dennis) Weaver all of Thomaston, GA; two grandchildren she raised as her own, Krystle Hamm and Christopher Cleveland; seven other grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Mr. James Harris of Thomaston, GA; a longtime and devoted friend, Mrs. Darlene Thompson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other
