It is with profound sadness that the family of Bruce Elliot Press announce his passing on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the age of 69 years.
Bruce grew up in Hampton, Virginia and later graduated from Virginia Tech. He served as a police officer for 27 years with the Williamsburg Police Department, where he met the love of his life, Joyce. After retirement, Bruce and Joyce moved to Georgia for their next great adventure. An avid traveler, he went to Alaska and Hawaii in recent years. Bruce was an animal lover who owned numerous collies and shetland sheepdogs over the years. He was known for his goofy smile, appreciation of a good steak, and love of his family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 42 years, Joyce; children: Maximillion (Rebecca), Tabitha (Joseph), and Amanda (Matthew); grandchildren: Hannah and Virginia; brother, Jeffrey (Marleen) as well as numerous relatives and friends.
A celebration of Bruce's life will be held virtually on Sunday January 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Henry County Georgia Humane Society.

Dear Joyce, Tabitha, Max, Amanda and the rest of the family, Just wanted to say how sorry Jimmy and I are to hear of the great lost of Bruce. He was and is one of our favorite cousin-in-laws. My gosh we go back a long time, 42 years and a little before. I loved to hear him talk and watch him eat man he could put away some hot dogs and man could he eat my crab salad. That was one of his favorite things I would make around Christmas. I always thought I would feed him again in this life but Bad S@#t happens just ask me I know. I feel your pain and cry for all of you, life is strange now and thats a fact. No one can say a thing that will make this any better so just hug each other and take care of each other. Sending thoughts and prays for all of you Bernice and Jimmy Slater
Bruce and I were fairly close friends when we both attended Jeff David Jr Hi. My best memories of him were playing chess and/or stratego after school. I remember a soft spoken, kind and affable young man from whom I never heard a harsh word. Eccl.12:7
Joyce, We are truly sorry for your loss. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Gordy & Linda Golla
I am sorry to hear of Bruce's passing. He was a great guy to know in high school. He was a member of our state champion chess team and we played in a number of tournaments around Virginia, even going to a tournament in New York City in 1969. I imagine he was an excellent police officer. I pray that his family will find peace with fond memories of him. Wesley Brooks HHS 69
Dear Joyce, Tabitha, Amanda and Max, The world would be a wonderful place if all husbands and fathers were like Bruce Press. Anyone who ever knew Bruce understood that his life completely revolved around his family. Joyce, he absolutely adored and treasured you. Tabitha, Amanda and Max, he was so proud of each one of you and your many accomplishments. One of my many favorite things about Bruce is that he also always let everyone else know just how much he loved each one of you and how proud he was. Bruce gave you the gift of complete devotion and taught you how to love and live successfully. He challenged you to be the greatest you can be and you are! He will always be here in the best part of each of you. Sending prayers and love, Terry
