Darrell "PIP" Gilliam, was born on February 11, 1964, to John Gilliam and lceline White Gilliam (deceased) in Athens, Georgia. He was the third of six-children born in this union. His younger sister, Carol, a brother, Anthony, and son, Calvin O'Brian Crawford preceded him in death. Darrell was baptized at Fairfield Baptist Church at an early age. He returned to his home church regularly bringing his children with him. Darrell was a proud graduate of Madison County High School, Danielsville, GA-Class of 1982. He was a loving father and dedicated family man.
Darrell leaves to mourn his wife Shonda Anderson-Gilliam; son Darrell D'wayne Gilliam; daughter Bianca (Ronald, Jr.) Frank; daughter Denise Brown; sons Evan and Shane Gilliam; and son Christopher Anderson. Grandchildren Sydney Gilliam; Kaylin Davis; Khloe Frank; and Kysen Frank. Siblings Brenda (Keith) Hill; Anthony (Betty) Dwelt; Annie Jones and parents John (Ethel) Gilliam, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Darrell career path was diverse and inspiring. He was a proud Veteran having served in the United States Army. He later became an Independent Truck Driver for 34 years, working for various companies while travelling across the US. His dedication fueled his passion as he hauled goods from state to state keeping the country running.
He framed his work as a sacrifice and a commitment to support his family; even though he was away often, his family carried him within their hearts, while he explored the country and shared stories about his travels with his family and friends.
Darrell was a "Barbeque (BBQ) Master" and often the life of family get-togethers. He began his journey in his parents yard turning a weekend hobby into a passion for smoking meat. It was not just a tool, but a way to bring family and friends together at cookouts, family reunÂions, family quality time-any event-by cooking meats "Low and Slow" in the oven, on the gas and coal grills.
PIP was a true Georgia Bulldog Fan. He shared his passion watching the games with his family and friends many times in the comfort of his living room. If he was not watching them he was talking about them. He took much pride wearing red and black, attending tailgating and making a fuss over the GA Bulldogs whether they won or lost.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026 from the Fairfield Baptist Church 28 Rock Quarry Rd, Danielsville, GA 30633 at 1:00pm.

Darrell, you will be deeply missed. I always valued our conversations, even the moments when I had to offer correction—they were always met with your understanding and good spirit. You had a genuine love for your family, your truck, and life itself. During your time at Crane, when business was strong, you consistently rose to the top, a true reflection of your dedication and work ethic. I will always remember our talks and the impact you made. Rest easy, my friend.
