Remembering Her Lifeβs Essence
βWho can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he will have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her lifeβ. Proverbs 31: 10-12
Born July 25, 1950, Mrs. Hazel D. Thompson entered life in Hampton, SC as the fourth child to the late Alexander and Lucille Gilyard Dobson. Growing up Mrs. Thompson was known as a quiet, friendly, and outgoing young woman that participated as a high school cheerleader for North District Training School. A talented seamstress, by hobby, Mrs. Thompson was known to sew for those in the community. Always willing to be of service, Mrs. Thompson was known at an early age to help anyone in need, love unconditionally, forgive quickly, and visit the sick. She loved gardening and sharing what she grew. Mrs. Thompson grew up as a member of New Hope Baptist Church and after marriage later became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Early Branch, SC.
On April 22, 1972 Mrs. Thompson married her high school sweetheart, Arneal Thompson. From this union were born their son Kevin Lamont Thompson and daughter LaToya DiAndria Thompson. In addition, this union lovingly welcomed a step-daughter, Kelly Brown-Jones.
Mrs. Thompson accepted Christ in 1995 and soon moved her church membership to Family Worship Center of Yemassee, SC. While attending Family Worship Center Mrs. Thompson was commissioned as a Missionary, Sunday School teacher, founder of the Women of Salt program and a member of Grandma Rachelβs summer youth camp. In addition to being an active member of the church, Missionary Thompson continued to work as a braiser for Scotman Ice Systems in Fairfax, SC for fifteen years. Upon leaving the workforce, Missionary Thompson became a dedicated homemaker.
After several years of faithfully serving the congregation of Family Worship Center, Missionary and Deacon Thompson were charged with assisting Pastor and First Lady Colin Barrett in establishing Beulah United Apostolic Church in Williston, SC where he also became an ordained minister.
Though sickness robbed Missionary Thompson of her health and strength, through her weakness she watched her husband of 50 years become an ordained Elder. Shortly after, weakness overtook Missionary Thompson. On May 21, 2022, Missionary Thompson entered into peaceful rest surrounded by her family.
Missionary Thompson has been preceded in death by her parents Alexander and Lucille Gilyard Dobson as well as sisters Helen Grant, Mary Dobson, Martha Dobson and Denise Dobson. Surviving are her husband of 50 years Arneal Thompson, son Kevin Thompson (Kristine) of Nashville, TN, daughter LaToya Thompson of Columbia, SC, step-daughter Kelly Brown-Jones (Abdullah Muhammad) of Newark, NJ, sisters Libby Dobson of Aiken, SC, Elaine Edwards-Faison (James) of Hampton, SC, Patricia Williams (Leon) of Varnville, SC, brothers Luther Chaplin (Angie) of Columbia, SC, and Alexander Dobson of Hampton, SC, grandchildren Sarah Dobson of Knob Knoster, MO, Myron Dobson, Jr of Columbia, SC, Nathan Thompson (Lorilea) of Tampa, FL, Alexandria Sievers (Gary) of Tampa, FL, Joshua Thompson of Orlando, FL, sisters-in-law Martha Barnwell (Joseph) of Sequin, TX, Debra Wiggins (Ricky) of Early Branch, SC, Wanonia Heyward of Early Branch, SC, a host of great-grandchildren and friends. To the Thompson & Dobson family; please know that you are in my sincere prayers .. I pray that the God of comfort and strength will be felt near to each of you as you go through this most difficult time. Hazel has a very special place in my heart. Our fathers ( Hazel & Alex) were best friends as they worked the long days on the railroad. As they took very good care of their young families; our families became a blended family during the days ... from house to house enjoying each other. We shared many good times in school as you & I were two of the shortest seniors; we were teased but we kept our pack to slip out of school & run home! I love you much my dear. You 'Did run well" I saw you before during and after ... becoming a a great woman of God. & lover of your husband and family. Rest well my friend in the presence of our God. Your friend & classmate Mary Mole Murray (Lizzy)
May God continue to keep my family strong and safe in his arms.Auntie Hazel has a spirit like no other. Her presence was warm and loving. She is already missed and she will continue to live on in our π hearts. Always π Donna Simmons and Family β€οΈπ
Sister Hazel was a very caring and compassionate person. Compassion puts love into action , and she did just that. Elder Thompson and Family, we extend our sincere love, care and sympathy at this time. Just remember the Lord's love never ends; His mercies never stop. They are new every morning. Lamentations 3:22-23. Hazel's Life is a Journey Remembered. As some people journey through life, they leave footprints wherever they go- footprints of kindness and love, courage and compassion, humor and inspiration, joy and faith. Even when they're gone, we can still look back and clearly see the trail they left behind- a trail bright with hope that invites us to follow. Pastor David and Frankie Lorick
