My condolences to the family. I wish my sister could have made it to the viewing and funeral. Will was a very kind man. He did the best he could to help anyone he could. He was the heart of the community that he lived in. Although he will be missed, he is no longer suffering.
My condolences go out to the family of Webb, my brother David Williams's dearest friend. I was just talking to my brother last night and he was telling me this story of how he was standing on the steps of the student union at NCA&T, when Webb and a few other students drove up, got out of the car with their things, and headed up the steps. He said in his deepest voice "do y'all need some help"? They said," Yes, we are freshmen", and then David said, "I am too". That was the beginning of a lifetime friendship with David and Webb. I live in Greensboro, NC and David never came to town to see me without seeing Webb. Actually, he probably saw Webb times when I didn't know he was in town. Rest well dear young man. we are freshmen
Webb (Wilbert L. Smith) and I met the summer of 1982 at NC A&T while attending Summer Orientation before our Freshman year. We instantly became friends and were inseparable. We had the same major and took every one of our classes together the entire 4 years of undergrad. Webb was/is more than a Friend, he is my Brother. Other than the loss of my parents, blood brother, and daughter, I have known no greater pain than I know now. He was a good and kind hearted man, whom I will miss infinitely. That said, God has a date for us all and he called Webb home. No more suffering, no more pain. You fought a good fight and now it is time for you to rest my Brother. Although your earthen body is gone, you live on in me and all of us who love you and share memories of our time together on this side of Zion. Rest my Brother. Be at Peace.
I met Wilbert at NCA&T State University in 1984. He was a great guy, and we stayed in touch for many years afterward. He will truly be missed, and I will be praying for the family in a time of need.
