Rev. Marvin Gordon was born on May 18, 1947, to Bill and Andrew Lee Gordon. He was the youngest of six children. Rev. Gordon graduated from Westlake High School in Atlanta, GA, where his love for ministry began.
He had one son, Elgin, and was a stepfather to four children: Valerie, Napoleon, Charles and Carlo from his late wife, whom he met at Piedmont Hospital/Shepherd Center. He spent 38 devoted years of marriage to his late wife. Rev. Gordon enjoyed spending time with family, fellowshipping with his community on the radio (WAOK) and his pastor friends, where he pastored at Antioch Baptist Church South (Atlanta, GA).
Rev. Gordon went on to serve his community as the chaplain in Fulton County jails and was a proud member of Atlanta Metropolitan Baptist Minister Union until his health declined. He was surrounded by the love of his family and his devoted niece “Terri” who was faithfully by his bedside where he peacefully transitioned, leaving a legacy of faith, compassion and devoted service to family and his community.
He is proceeded in death by his late wife, First Lady Jonie Gordon; two stepsons, Napoleon and Carlo McCier of Atlanta, GA; three sisters: Ruth Price, Ruby Gordon of Atlanta, GA and Emma Jean Smith of Decatur, GA; four brothers: Bill Gordon Jr., Johnny Gordon, Charlie Gordon and Willie Gordon all of Atlanta, GA.
Rev. Gordon faith will continue to live in our hearts. He is survived by one son, Elgin Gordon; one stepson, Charles McCier (Drenda) of Fairburn GA; one stepdaughter, Valerie McCier (Opie) of Conyers GA and a host of grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins, pastors and church members that will miss him dearly.
Send flowers to the service of Rev. Marvin Gordon
Our sincere condolences to the Gordon Family and all those impacted by Rev. Gordon's transition. He was a friend to our family for many years. We are praying that his loving memories will bring peace and comfort; as you adjust to life without his physical presence. With love, Pastor Roy. L. Parris, The Parris Family, and Hurt Street Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia.
Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
